The EU Delegation in Algeria states that a closing ceremony for the ‘institutional twinning’ project for the environment and sustainable development was held in Algiers on 18 February 2016.

This ‘twinning’ was set up 18 months ago by France and Austria whom received EU backing of €850,000 and an Algerian contribution of 12 million dinars.

It is officially entitled ‘support for the National Observatory on the Environment and Sustainable Development (ONEDD) for the improvement of its operational capabilities and the implementation of the National System for Environmental Information (ENVIS),’ and it was launched as part of the support programme for implementing the Association Agreement between Algeria and the European Union (SAAP/P3A-III).

The project has helped to develop rich and varied activities regarding training, support for setting up the hardware and software infrastructure required and the implementation of tools and methodologies, analysis and production of information.
