On January 29, the closing celebration of the “Promotion of Sustainable Tourism” project took place, an initiative that has helped shape a more inclusive, sustainable and job-generating Tunisian tourism. A day rich in exchanges and sharing, where we retraced the path taken alongside the Ministry of Tourism, federations, technical partners and beneficiaries of the project. The event was inaugurated by Sofiene Tekâia, Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Giuseppe Perrone, Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union, and Elisabeth Wolbers, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, highlighting the collective commitment to more resilient tourism.

The beneficiaries’ testimonies particularly enriched the discussions, illustrating the concrete impact of the project on their professional careers and the development of their activities. Since 2019, this initiative has supported 3,470 people, 66% of whom are women, and 851 micro and small businesses, thereby strengthening access to markets and economic opportunities. Thanks to training and coaching, 1,095 jobs have been created, with a strong involvement of women and young people. These results demonstrate that tourism can be a powerful lever for inclusive and sustainable development.

This event is part of the “Promotion of Sustainable Tourism” project, implemented by the Ministry of Tourism with the support of GIZ and jointly financed by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) as part of the Tounes Wijhetouna program.
