A community engagement event was held in the village of Aassoun in the region of North Lebanon’s Donnieh under an EU-funded project promoting conflict management and local development implemented by Mercy Corps in partnership with Maharat Foundation and Peace Labs, and in collaboration with the Union of Municipalities of Donnieh.

The event featured a debate with journalist Walid Abboud emphasising the role of media in local development. A video highlighting the need to support the education and health facilities in the village and a performance reflecting the Lebanese and Syrian dancing traditions, in addition to recreational activities for children were also part of the event.

The project aims at building municipal financial and operational capacity to increase responsiveness to local needs, and support the implementation of inter-municipal social services projects that contribute to addressing tensions stemming from the Syrian refugee crisis.
