European Endowment for Democracy, together with several partners such as the European Commission, UNESCO, Université Libre de Bruxelles and others, is organising Difference Day 2020 on 3 May at 5 p.m. The event’s objective is to celebrate freedom of the press and freedom of expression to honour people and organisations that make a difference in protecting and promoting these values.

Because of the measures taken due to the Corona crisis, Difference Day edition 2020 will take place digitally. It will be broadcast live from Pilar: https://pilar.brussels/nl

The day will start with parallel sessions with speakers, films, debates, exhibitions and present the challenges to the freedom of expression and press.

In 1993 the United Nations General Assembly declared 3 May as the World Press Freedom Day to raise awareness on the importance of freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression enshrined under Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
