Following the meeting on the “Internationalization of SMEs” working group in October 2020, a subsequent workshop on the priorities for the development of exports of Moroccan SMEs was held early this month. The MED MSMEs Programme’s team of experts presented the themes that it plans to develop during the year 2021 to support SMEs in Morocco, namely: 1) the digital ecosystem for the internationalization of SMEs and 2) the post COVID-19 evolution of global and regional value chains, including opportunities for Moroccan SMEs under the Green Deal and the EU’s new industrial strategy.

Discussions between the participants highlighted in particular the need for support in the digital transition both at the level of SMEs and at the level of support agencies concerned. In particular, if companies are aware of the major changes underway (eg Industry 4.0), they must be supported in their transition, namely through centres of excellence for strengthening skills, competitiveness and innovation.

In line with the elaboration of policies for inclusive growth in the EU Southern Neighbourhood, the EU-funded MED MSMEs Programme (2018-2022) builds on a national participatory approach, international best practices and regional initiatives to foster the formulation and implementation of integrated policies and instruments supporting the development of MSMEs.
