Statisticians in the MED countries are facing a major problem. They are isolated from the development of international methodologies and norms as well as from international fora about innovations and new techniques. More important, the region is not heard enough in international statistics. To tackle this issue, MED statisticians are invited to attend two major events in the sector in 2018.

The first event will take place in September when the IAOS will convey its bi-annual Conference on the issue of “Better Statistics for Better Lives”. The MED countries will present several papers related to the “Communication for statistics” training course that was developed by MEDSTAT IV.

Then, in October, the UNWDF will be organised in Dubai with a specific session around presentations by the MED countries under the theme of “trust in statistics”. Presentations will be made by Egypt, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.
