EU-funded PPRD South latest activities

Last week, the EU-funded PPRD South 3 held various meetings and trainings.

The first meeting under the Spanish presidency was organized, gathering virtually almost all the national focal points and PPRD South 3 team. Participants talked about the end of the project and the exit strategy for which 2 charters have been developed and are under validation process by the partner countries. The twining concept has also been addressed. When implemented, one country will be especially in charge of one topic.

The training on MyDewetra ended on 17 December after 14 days. Participants from Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon, Palestine are now able to prepare daily flood and forest fire risk bulletins on the basis of the info available in myDEWETRA. OCHA Lybia attended in view of the possible utilisation of myDEWETRA by the humanitarian community to protect from the consequences of adverse weather conditions, displaced, refugees and migrants involved in the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country.

A series of meetings with partner countries on the European Civil Protection Mechanism also took place: On 14 December with Egypt and on 16 December with Algeria.

Finally, the progress in the development of the Regional Guidelines Document was presented on 16 December to representatives of 7 Partner Countries.

The overall objective of EU-funded PPRD South 3 is to contribute to increasing resilience and reducing the social, economic and environmental costs of natural and man-made disasters in the ENP South region, based on the results of the PPRD South Program and the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM).
