The EU-Jordan Association Council which was held on 17 June reviewed the state of EU-Jordan bilateral relations. It took stock of progress in the implementation of the EU-Jordan Association Agreement and of the EU-Jordan partnership priorities. Regional issues were also discussed.

After the meeting, the EU and Jordan issued a joint press statement.

The Association Council discussed cooperation on a number of priorities in the areas of security and counter-terrorism, socio-economic issues, and democracy, human rights and the rule of law. It reviewed, in particular, bilateral trade relations and Jordan’s economic reform agenda.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi had an informal exchange with EU foreign ministers over lunch. The discussion focused on recent developments in the region.

In the margins of the meeting, High Representative Mogherini and Minister Safadi signed a Framework Participation Agreement (FPA) on the participation of Jordan in EU crisis management operations. Jordan is the first country from the Middle East and North Africa region to sign such an agreement with the EU. This further deepens the EU and Jordan cooperation in the field of common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) allowing the secondment of Jordanian personnel to CSDP missions and operations.
