To strengthen the linkage between the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), while also boosting collaboration across all police administrations within the PCP, EUPOL COPPS advisers held a training session on 11 September for senior officers from the PCP’s Community Policing Administration. This session, which culminates the last day of the “Building Bridges” conference, aimed to reinforce the role of police officers as active partners in community development, emphasising the importance of prevention, dialogue, and trust-building. The 12 officers were encouraged to work closely with CSOs to solve recurring problems and address causes of crime through inclusive, community-based approaches.
The Mission’s Community Policing advisers emphasised that to enhance collaboration, Community Policing officers need to be committed to listening to the community and working collaboratively to improve safety and trust. Brigadier Ashraf Mutlaq, Head of the Community Policing and Media Department at the PCP told the attendees that cementing ties with the community is a paramount goal for the organisation. As a result, the community has become a key partner in crime prevention efforts.
CSOs can perform as a key partner, particularly in carrying out social activities and maintaining ongoing dialogue between the public and the Palestinian Police. Established in 2006, EUPOL COPPS continues to support the modernisation and professionalization of the Palestinian Civil Police, with a strong focus on community engagement.
