The Palestinian Attorney General Office (AGO), one of the key counterparts of EUPOL COPPS, has a specialised unit to deal with cases pertaining to local governance. To introduce the participants to the mandate, structure and activities of the specialised Local Governance Unit within the AGO, EUPOLCOPPS held a workshop targeting local governance representatives from the southern districts, including officials from municipalities (Bethlehem and Dura), from the prosecution, as well as from the judiciary. The meeting was held on 19 May in Bethlehem. The workshop aimed to enhance coordination and cooperation among them and served as a platform for open dialogue, allowing participants to share the key challenges they encounter in their daily responsibilities. The attendees discussed several topics such as coordination gaps, procedural obstacles, and limitations in inter-agency collaboration. The participants and facilitators worked together to identify practical solutions and approaches to overcome obstacles, with the goal of enhancing the efficiency, transparency, and accountability of local governance mechanisms. This initiative reflects EUPOLCOPPS’ ongoing commitment to supporting the rule of law and promoting institutional cooperation within the justice sector.
