EUPOL COPPS Penitentiary Advisers delivered a Training of Trainers for Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) officers from the Correctional and Rehabilitation Centres Department (CRCD) on the practical implementation of human rights aspects in the centers. The two-week long training, organised in collaboration with the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR), was concluded on 26 February in Ramallah. Two EUPOL COPPS Penitentiary Advisers and two ICHR officers presented several topics during the first week of training, such as communication techniques, presentation skills, human rights and gender mainstreaming.
The second week included presentations by the EUPOL COPPS Advisers and CRCD officers on topics such as sentence planning, risk assessment and evaluation. The training, delivered to 16 Palestinian CRCD officers, half of them females, helps to address a shortage of qualified trainers in the Palestinian districts. It will increase the number of trainers in each district who will train more staff in their respective work places. The training ultimately helps with the reintegration of inmates into society upon their release.
