This year, Europe Day takes on a unique resonance. May 9, 2025, marks both the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the founding act of the European project, and the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Two anniversaries which, together, remind us that peace is first and foremost a project to be built. The dynamics and history that gave rise to the European project are now brought home to us, and to the entire globe, with a new intensity. The acceleration and convergence of crises, the growing challenge to a multilateral order that is more necessary than ever in the face of global challenges, the temptations of protectionism or the use of force as a means of settling disputes, remind us that peace, democracy, and cooperation are never taken for granted. They are choices, and values that must be renewed and defended tirelessly. In the face of those who challenge them, we, the Member States of the European Union, in close coordination with our allies and partners, will present a common front.

Like the European Union, Morocco is driven by this desire to commit to peace, international cooperation, and multilateralism. In the face of current challenges, it is in our best interest to present a united front and move forward together. We can do this by building on solid foundations, reiterated in particular in the Euro-Moroccan Partnership for Shared Prosperity established in 2019. The Euro-Moroccan relationship is distinguished by its dynamism and depth in all areas. This spirit of cooperation is also reflected in the close relations that we, the Member States, maintain with Morocco, through concrete projects and close coordination on major shared issues. Our proximity, and our ability to maintain this respectful, strategic, and ongoing dialogue, constitute a valuable driving force for jointly tackling major global challenges.

Europe Day thus not only celebrates the unity of a continent around shared values and interests. In the current context, it is a necessary reminder of the ability to build bridges, beyond established borders, between all those committed to promoting universal values. It symbolizes the choice of peace over violence, of dialogue in the face of provocations, of active solidarity, openness and cooperation, and the rejection of identity-based and authoritarian responses. It is in this spirit that the European Union and its Member States celebrate Europe Day today, determined to continue building together, with their allies and closest partners, an ever-expanding common area of freedom, solidarity, prosperity, and security for the benefit of future generations.
