The European Commission has underlined the need for a strong, coordinated European response against terrorism, while announcing the presentation of an Action Plan to strengthen the fight against the financing of terrorism. The Commission affirms its intention to deliver “a strong and rapid response to current challenges, based on the existing Community rules, by supplementing them if necessary”.

In the context of the revision of its European Neighborhood Policy (ENP), the Commission has announced its intention to expand cooperation with partner countries by adding a “security dimension”. This need was stressed during consultations conducted in previous months, which indicated a recurring desire that safety be given a key place in the ENP, in order to increase the resilience of partner countries against the threats that they are currently experiencing.
