EU’s CES-MED conducts training workshop for Jordanian and Palestinian cities

Under the patronage of The Ministry of Municipal Affairs (MoMA) and Madaba Municipality in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and in the presence of Mr. Omar Abu Eid, Programme Manager at the EU delegation in Jordan, CES-MED conducted a three-day Training of Trainers workshop about the “Technical Steps for the Preparation of SECAPs” on February 26-28, 2018.

Approximately, 40 participants from seven Jordanian municipalities and 10 Palestinian ones, representatives from the MoMA in Jordan, as well as from the Palestinian Electricity Regulatory Council attended the workshop.

The event was opened with a welcome speech by HE Eng. Ahmed Al Zaiydah, Mayor of Madaba, who gave an overview on the identity of the city, its ancient Mosaics representing symbolically the mosaics of its people and embodying its future. He also emphasized the importance of Renewable Energy as a vital initiative to all municipalities and more specifically Madaba which is a touristic city and carries the burden of very high energy bills. He expressed his wishes to get CES-MED assistance in order to meet the municipality‘s objective and grant all municipal buildings with Solar energy. Mr. Al Zaiydah hoped that this workshop will be a good opportunity for sharing experiences with other cities and expressed his municipality’s motivation to join the CoM.
