Casablanca, 15 October 2025 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, and the Delegation of the European Union to Morocco, convened a national industry dialogue under the EU-funded Green Forward Industry (GFI) project to explore pathways towards circularity in Morocco’s automotive sector.  Morocco’s automotive industry is the largest in Africa and Europe’s leading non-EU supplier, valued at over EUR 13 billion in 2023 and growing rapidly.

Funded by the European Union under the regional Green Forward initiative, the GFI project will run through 2028 to support Morocco’s transition towards a green and circular economy by demonstrating circular business models in small and medium-sized enterprises that foster innovation, resource efficiency, and green job creation.

Mr. Gérald Audaz, Head of the Economic Competitiveness, Infrastructure and Sustainable Development Section at the European Union Delegation to Morocco, recalled the commitments made by Morocco and the European Union under the Green Partnership signed in 2022 to work together towards sustainable economic development that is energy and natural resource efficient. “Vehicle production is one of the most resource-intensive industries. Over time, the European Union has developed effective legislation and measures to promote greater circularity in this sector. In the European Union, we are now moving closer to circularity with a target of recycling 95% of the mass of end-of-life vehicles (excluding batteries). Our Green Partnership is the ideal format to support the development of these practices in Morocco.”
