As the Euro-Mediterranean region faces increasingly severe impacts from climate change, the need for collective action toward climate neutrality and sustainable development has never been more urgent. The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) responds to this challenge through the Mediterranean Green Week,  to be held in Brussels from 24 to 27 June. This flagship initiative aims at fostering regional cooperation and advancing low-carbon, resilient, and resource-efficient development. The second edition of the Mediterranean Green Week brings together the 43 UfM Member States – alongside civil society and key stakeholders – to tackle the region’s environmental and climate challenges. Key topics include climate mitigation and adaptation, energy efficiency, regional energy security, pollution prevention, biodiversity protection, and ecosystem restoration. Building on previous discussions and partnerships, the 2025 edition aims to strengthen regional dialogue, promote innovative solutions, and catalyze concrete action for a greener Mediterranean.

Interreg NEXT MED will actively contribute to four thematic sessions throughout the Mediterranean Green Week, highlighting how the Programme support to a more sustainable and climate-resilient Mediterranean. In particular, it will showcase its approach to investing EU funds for innovative environmental transnational cooperation projects. Notably, the programme recently closed a dedicated call for proposals focused entirely on the green transition, making €80 million available for transnational projects. The Interreg NEXT MED Programme reinforces its commitment to accelerating the green transition in the Mediterranean by not only financing innovative cooperation projects, but also actively engaging in key regional platforms to shape environmental and climate actions.
