The embassies of the UK, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the European Union Delegation to Libya express their deep concern regarding the disappearance of House of Representatives member Mrs. Siham Sergiwa.

We call on the relevant authorities to urgently investigate and provide details on her whereabouts. We note the disconcerting trend of recent enforced disappearances and unlawful arrests in Libya, which are violations of international humanitarian and human rights law. Accountability before the law is basic right that must be respected and enjoyed by all Libyans.

Long-term stability requires all Libyan men and women to participate in identifying and addressing drivers of conflict, and the inclusion of women in this process is crucial. The UK, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and EU Delegation reiterate their support for the equal rights and meaningful participation of women in all stages of the transitional peace process in Libya.
