From 7 to 16 April, fifteen Libyan forensic experts, including four women, completed the second intensive forensic practical training course at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.  Forensic science is playing an increasingly important role in criminal investigations, this training-on-the-job was focused on genetics, toxicology, and anthropology investigations.  This second iteration, part of the EUBAM Libya project “Hands-on training on specific laboratory techniques and observe advanced forensic laboratory practices and equipment at the University of Tor Vergata – Rome,” was made possible through a collaborative working arrangement between the University’s Department of Biomedicine and Prevention and EUBAM Libya. This initiative supports the ongoing development of the Libyan Ministry of Interior’s forensic laboratories in Tripoli, Benghazi, and Sabha. The trained experts will contribute directly to high-priority investigations, including victim identification following the Derna floods and of mass graves discovered in Kufra and Sabha. The activities included the collection, preservation and analysis of forensic evidence, as well as the interpretation of such evidence in the context of criminal investigation.
