On November 13, Mayors of CES-MED cities in the Southern-Mediterranean, collaborating with the project, will participate at the COP23 Session on the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM): cities and local authorities for climate action.

The Session is organised by the European Commission, Committee of the Regions, Global Covenant of Mayors Secretariats, and Regional Covenant of Mayors Secretariats. The full-day event brings together local and regional leaders, representatives of governments, the finance community and business from across the world to share good practices and opportunities for promoting the transition to low emission and climate resilient economies.

Mr. Miguel Arias Cañete, Commissioner for Climate and Energy, European Commission and Mr. Karl-Heinz Lambertz, President of European Committee of the Regions, will address the participants during the opening.

The CES-MED project is an EU-funded regional initiative set up to provide training and technical assistance support to local and national authorities in the southern Mediterranean region, with a view to helping them respond more actively to sustainable policy challenges.

CES-MED ensures that the actions proposed match with the objectives of the Covenant of Mayors: to reach and even go beyond the European objective to reduce CO2 emissions by 20% thanks to the improvement of energy efficiency and the increased use of sustainable energy.
