The UfM Secretariat has presented the organisation’s main results on its website, and announced 41 regional cooperation projects requiring a total of EUR 5 billion in investment.

The UfM has made a commitment “to further contribute, through its activities, to tackling the socio-economic root causes of the current security and migration challenges through an enhanced common agenda for human development, stability and integration in the Mediterranean.”

The UfM also intends to address regional integration, which is rather weak in the Mediterranean region. Only 1% of trade is between Mediterranean countries, compared to 9% between these countries and the EU. The development gap between the two shores remains significant. GDP in the EU is six times higher than in Southern Mediterranean countries.
