This roundtable will bring together key stakeholders to explore strategies to accelerate private investment in renewable energy generation. Participants will aim to identify options and best practices to overcome the key obstacles hindering private investment, such as licensing and permitting procedures, delays in ensuring connection to the grid, regulatory uncertainty and financing costs in the South. The public-private partnerships and financial mechanisms will also be explored to unlock large-scale energy investments in the region. The roundtable is expected to result in strengthened regulatory collaboration amongst Mediterranean countries to underpin investment-friendly regulation. The outcome of the discussion will inform and shape MEDREG’s strategy and activities for the next three years to advance the interoperability of energy markets in the Mediterranean, facilitating cross-border electricity trade. Investment opportunities and financial instruments to support regional energy projects will be identified. Concrete recommendations for accelerating renewable energy deployment and interconnection projects will also be proposed.
