Upon the invitation of the Ministry of Energy and Water and the Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC), MEDREG Director Hasan Ozkoc held a series of meetings with H.E. Dr. Walid Fayad, Minister of Energy and Water, and his team, as well as with the Acting President and Director General of LCEC, Dr. Joseph Al Assad, and his colleagues. These discussions focused on the “Electricity Market Law-462” and its potential revisions. The law envisions the establishment of a national Energy Regulatory Authority, which is expected to attract foreign investment for the deployment of renewable energy technologies and infrastructure in Lebanon.
In addition, Director Ozkoc participated in a workshop organised by the Lebanon Committee of the World Energy Council (WEC-Lebanon), titled “Setting a Regulatory Framework for the Natural Gas Market in Lebanon: The Way Forward.” During the event, he shared insights from MEDREG’s members on regulatory experiences and best practices.
Mr. Ozkoc also briefed participants on current natural gas regulations in Europe and the key lessons that Lebanon can learn from them. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of integrating green hydrogen into Lebanon’s energy mix and defining strategic pathways for the energy transition, leveraging the potential of renewable energy sources.
