Mahdi is a Syrian refugee in Lebanon. After five years of war he wants to go home. With the help of the EU, Mehdi received a three-day training on how to use a video camera, and two days’ training on editing, and decided to make a film about stress. His story is told in the latest EU Neighbours South video, showing how the EU invests in young and innovative minds to build a brighter future in the Mediterranean.
The training was provided by a Lebanese NGO, implemented by UNSECO, and funded by the EU through the LEA – Net Med Youth project, an EU-funded initiative on media and film making. “If I had a chance to buy a camera I would make a film about the Syrian exodus,” he says.
The video is the third of nine interviews presenting the testimonies of young people in the Southern Mediterranean who have benefited from EU projects.
The videos are released on the EU Neighbours South Facebook page, or can be seen on the project’s YouTube channel.
They are part of the #EU4YOUTH social media driven campaign (Facebook, Twitter) aimed at raising awareness of EU-funded youth initiatives in the EU Southern Neighbourhood countries: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia. The campaign targets one million young people in the age group 18-35 in the EU Southern Neighbourhood countries.
