The Tangier cultural space TABADOUL is launching the 3rd edition of the Youth Talent Contest TANJIL 2017, backed by the TANJAzz Festival and co-financed by the EU within the framework of the regional program Med Culture. The event is organised in partnership with the Lorin Foundation and Visa for Music.

The deadline for participation in the pre-selection phase of the competition, aimed at young musicians and resident groups in Morocco in search of a professional status, is 3 May 2017. Candidates should send their applications to concours.tanjil@gmail.com and to tanjazz.tanger@gmail.com

TANJIL targets young artists of various expressions in a very free perception of what jazz music can be today.

The bands pre-selected for the semi-final will be invited to perform at the Tabadoul stage taking place from 30 June to 2 July 2017. A second selection will be made following these concerts to retain only five bands. The five finalists will perform at the Festival TANJAzz taking place from 1 to 17 September 2017. After these concerts, the jury will designate the winner in 2017. A second winner will be declared following a public vote.

From 22 to 25 November, they will participate in the Visa for Music event in Rabat and get visibility at the TANJAzz booth, which enjoys a great affluence of professionals of the international music industry, followed by a press campaign and networking.

But beyond the opportunities to perform on stage, the TANJIL dynamic goes further, enabling the winners to benefit from a real professional training programme. They will have the opportunity to take part in artistic residencies providing coaching, mentoring and artistic professionalisation in various artistic, technical and managerial fields: organisation and writing of texts, show design, sound and light. This stage is completed by the creation of a complete concert.

An electronic press kit is produced for them to facilitate their promotion in national and international festivals in addition to the possibility of producing a record for the winner chosen by the jury.

Med Culture is an EU-funded regional programme that kicked off in February 2014 with the aim of sustaining the creation of institutional and social environments to support culture as a vector for freedom of expression and sustainable development. This should be accomplished by reinforcing the capacities of the public and private cultural sectors as vectors for democratisation, and economic and social development for societies in the Southern Mediterranean.

Med Culture is part of the regional programme “Media and culture for development in the Southern Mediterranean” which has been allocated a total budget of EUR 17 million over a four-year period, of which EUR 9 million is for the award of grants on a co-financing basis, and EUR 8 million for one capacity-development mechanism on media (Med Media) and one capacity development mechanism on culture (Med Culture).
