Following a high-level visit led by Mr. Ioannis Tsakiris, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Ms. Christiane Laibach, Member of the Executive Board of the KfW Group, and Mr. Daniele Dotto, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation, to the site of the 270 MW Jbel Lahdid wind farm built by ONEE in the province of Essaouira, the EIB, KfW, and the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) have announced a new €300 million financing.

This financing aims to improve the integration of renewable energies by strengthening Morocco’s electricity grid, as part of their strategic cooperation to support the Kingdom’s energy transition.

The new financing, structured and led by the EIB (€170 million) alongside KfW on behalf of the German government (€130 million), will support a series of investments to be carried out by ONEE. These are intended to modernise and expand the national electricity transmission network over 731 km, increasing the transport network’s evacuation capacity by 1,850 Mega Volt Amperes (MVA).

The goal is to facilitate the integration of new renewable capacities into the electricity system and support ONEE in its role as network operator, in alignment with Morocco’s energy and climate goals
