Cybercrime is becoming a bigger and bigger problem in the world, thus in Palestine. Here, the Department of Justice is keeping up on cybercrime, and enhancing their knowledge on related topics. This is why EUPOL COPPS Justice and Security sector departments joint their efforts to support the Mission’s counterparts, also working together for this purpose. A training for staff of the Palestinian Department of Justice, including topics such as Open-Source Information, Crypto Currencies investigation methods and digital forensic, was organised in Ramallah on 20/05.
At the training the participants discussed about some of the most frequent cybercrime affecting Palestine, such as phishing attacks, ransomware and Distributed Denial of Service attacks (DDoS). The training also focused on anonymous transactions of funds used with crypto currencies that can be used for legal but also for illegal transactions. As per the session on Digital Forensics, it was discussed at the training how this can yield a wealth of information from different kinds of objects, other than phones or computers (of which there is common knowledge). For example, vehicles have information stored onboard that can be used in criminal investigations. EUPOL COPPS is committed to enhance networking between its Palestinian counterparts trough its advising and mentoring role.
