Cracking down on illegal dumping and deforestation helps to preserve biodiversity and maintain ecosystem balance. The Environmental Crime Unit of the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP), which is part of the Tourism and Antiquities Police, stepped up measures against “enemies of the environment”, but they lacked the necessary tools to investigate such crimes. In particular, the PCP needed equipment to secure and examine crime scenes related to solid waste and soil pollution. Kits that will enable the PCP to investigate such environmental crimes, for example ladders, measurement tools, gloves, shovels, boots and other necessary tools, were handed over to the PCP on 16 April in Ramallah.  All the tools are packed into grab bags which will be distributed to all districts. Preserving the environment and combating environmental crimes are among the strategic goals of the PCP, said Brigadier Muntaser Tamimi, Head of the Environment Crime Unit, during the hand-over meeting.
