Yesterday, the Mission and representatives of several European countries welcomed many hundreds of Palestinians to the annual celebration of Europe Day. The festive event took place in the Jamal Abd Al-Nasir Park in Nablus where the Office of the European Union Representative had organized the Europe Village 2019.
Many EU Member States showcased their work in Palestine and shared their traditions and cultural heritage including food, music, and traditional customs. The citizens of Nablus engaged vigorously in the activities to explore the diversity of European traditions and culture and to learn more about the European Union and its Member States.
Europe Day, 9 May, celebrates peace and unity in Europe and marks the anniversary of the ‘Schuman declaration’ in 1950 by French Foreign Minister Robert Shuman in which he announced his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, making war between Europe’s nations unthinkable.
