European Council President Donald Tusk held a meeting today with the President of the local Council of Eastern Aleppo Brita Hagi Hasan, who he invited to talk in front of European leaders at the European Council in Brussels.

“The last thing your people in Aleppo need today is more words of sympathy. The only thing you need today is real and effective protection and assistance. I am absolutely aware of this fact,” Tusk told Eastern Alleppo Mayor. “Our main goal today is to protect as effectively as possible your civilians in Aleppo.”

“Please believe me, no-one is indifferent in the EU. I am talking about people, institutions, and politicians. There are some global limitations and problems, but this is what we want to do, to be more effective when it comes to protection and assistance. We should and we will try to do everything we can to help you and the civilians in Aleppo,” the European Council President said.
