Rabat, April 15, 2025 – As part of the tripartite program between the Kingdom of Morocco, the European Union, and the Council of Europe, entitled “Towards a More Protective, Accessible, and Effective Justice System in Morocco” (MA-JUST Program), co-financed by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe, an international seminar entitled “Recognition and Calculation of the Value of Domestic Work in Divorce Cases – Comparative Perspectives” was held in Rabat, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Morocco. The opening of the seminar featured speeches by Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi, Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr. Daniele Dotto, Deputy Head of Delegation, Delegation of the European Union to Morocco, and Ms. Carmen Morte Gomez, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Rabat.

The main objective of this seminar was to explore the different approaches adopted by international legal systems regarding the recognition and valuation of domestic work, particularly in divorce proceedings. Through presentations by European experts, this meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of the comparative assessment methods used to calculate the value of unpaid work and to address the associated social and legal issues.

The valuation of domestic work, often overlooked, is a major challenge in ensuring fair justice and protecting the rights of individuals, particularly women, who contribute significantly to family stability without receiving financial compensation. As part of the ongoing reform of the Moroccan Family Code, this seminar provided valuable input to inform discussions on the effective integration of this valuation into Moroccan legislation.
