The European Union Ambassador to Algeria, Mr. Diego Mellado, announced Tuesday, during a press conference held at his residence, the 9th edition of the European Film Festival, scheduled for May 10 to 19, 2025, at the cinematheques of Algiers, Oran, and Bejaïa.

Organized in partnership with the EU Member States represented in Algeria, the Festival will this year showcase a selection of 18 contemporary film productions, including feature films, documentaries, short films, and animated films, focusing on themes such as family, solidarity, freedom, and climate change, reflecting the richness and diversity of European cinema.

“Cinema, as a universal language, is a formidable vehicle for telling our stories, sharing our emotions, and exploring our common realities,” emphasized EU Ambassador Diego Mellado. “I am delighted that the European Film Festival, which celebrates the richness and plurality of cinema in EU countries, is helping to build cultural bridges between our peoples and strengthen intercultural dialogue on both sides of the Mediterranean.”

The 2025 Festival program has been designed to appeal to all ages and tastes: from poignant dramas to offbeat comedies, historical films to childhood stories, every viewer will find something for them thanks to a diverse cinematic panorama accessible to all audiences. In addition to film screenings, the Festival also hosts several masterclasses open to the public at the three film libraries with European film professionals.
