The “whey” forward for Lebanon’s dairy sector

Whey is the main by-product obtained by the dairy industry. About 220,000 tons of whey are generated each year in Lebanon. Despite its richness in valuable compounds, a small fraction of whey is used to produce whey cheeses (double cream). At the same time, the major part of whey is dumped in rivers and sewage, leading to environmental problems.

On Tuesday, 17 January, at 10:15-15:00 Beirut time, a hybrid event will present recent findings from two pilot projects undertaken in the Lebanese whey industry under the SwitchMed/MED TEST III project.

This hybrid seminar will also present production and consumption practices that can contribute to valorizing whey as a raw material in the dairy sector. Practitioners, professionals, industrialists from the dairy sector, and other actors interested in finding viable alternatives to turn challenges into opportunities are invited to attend the event online.
