The Fifth Mediterranean Water Forum, scheduled to be held from 5-7 February 2024, is a pivotal event co-organized by the Tunisian Government, the Mediterranean Water Institute (IME), and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). The forum will revolve around the theme “together for a shared water sobriety,” emphasizing the need for a fresh perspective on water usage across various sectors of the global economy, including agriculture, industry, urban and rural areas, tourism, and nature. This theme also underscores the essential alliance with other main commons such as food, health, energy, education, and biodiversity.
The forum aims to provide a platform for Mediterranean countries and organizations to express themselves, focusing on local needs and identifying best practices and technologies to address the challenges of water security in the region. Given the demographic trends, socio-economic challenges, and the impact of climate change on water management in the Mediterranean, the discussions at the forum are expected to be centered on identifying effective responses to ensure water security, making it a crucial platform for addressing the region’s water-related challenges and fostering collaboration among various stakeholders.
The Fifth Mediterranean Water Forum will play a crucial role in shaping the agenda and priorities for the global water community as it moves towards the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, Indonesia, from 18th to 24th May 2024.
