The first deputy secretary general of the Union for the Mediterranean, Grammenos Mastrogeni, stressed that the renewable energy sector is called upon to contribute significantly to reducing climate change in the Mediterranean region.
During a press conference held to share details about the “Cairo Sustainable Energy week“, he explained that the renewable energy sector is required to make many sacrifices for the future of the planet by reducing carbon use and reaching carbon neutrality, pointing to the need to invest in new and renewable energy to preserve the future of the environment and reduce climate change.
Activities of the 2nd edition of the “Cairo Sustainable Energy Week”, organized by the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, will be held on October 1 to 3, under the auspices of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab states, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
The Cairo Sustainable Energy Week is held in cooperation with the strategic partners of the center, namely the League of Arab states, the Union for the Mediterranean UfM, the International Renewable Energy Agency IRENA, and the United Nations socio-economic commission for Western Asia.
The regional event is an important opportunity to discuss the most important challenges related to the energy transition in the region, as it will address vital topics such as the generation of electricity from renewable and clean sources, electrical interconnection and clean hydrogen, in addition to facilitating access to green finance to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
