Urban and employment policies in the Mediterranean discussed at ARLEM meeting on sustainable territorial development

 Local political leaders and officials from around the Mediterranean discussed two reports at the first meeting of the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly’s (ARLEM) Commission for sustainable territorial development, held on 26 October in Brussels

 
The two papers – one on a sustainable urban agenda and the other on ’employment and territorial development in the Mediterranean region’ – will now be revised in light of the discussion and presented for approval by all members of ARLEM at the assembly’s next plenary session, in January 2016 in Nicosia, Cyprus.
 
The reports’ proposals, if accepted by the EU, could result in the extension of core elements of the EU’s policies towards its regions and cities into the EU’s policy towards its Mediterranean neighbours.
