LoCAL ACA-MED
The project is one of two components of the ACA-MED programme, which aims to promote the green transition and increase environmental and climate resilience of economies and communities in the region, leading to improved quality of life for men and women.
The project uses the ‘LoCAL mechanism’ to support the integration of climate change into local governments’ planning and budgeting systems and increase awareness of and response to climate change at the local level. It will thereby promote climate integration with a vertical approach, from central governments to local authorities.
The project works in close coordination with the AdaptAction – Advancing Climate Adaptation in the Southern Mediterranean (AdaptAction ACA-MED) project.
Objectives
To increase local authorities’ access to climate finance to implement climate change adaptation investments.
- To increase awareness and capacities to respond to climate change adaptation at local level;
- To improve the integration of climate change adaptation in local plans and budgets and implementation of gender-sensitive climate change adaptation interventions and investments.
- To establish an effective, performance-based, climate resilient grant (PBCRG) system in targeted local governments, operational for additional funding.
