In the Southern Mediterranean region, over 30% of young people are not in employment, education, or training (NEET). NEET rates for young women are 10 to 20 percentage points higher than for young men.
Improving services to reach out to NEETs and enhancing youth’s employability and skills is critical to leverage their potential for economic growth and inclusion.
The European Union and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) join forces to support Youth NEETs through a regional initiative taking inspiration from the EU Youth Guarantee.
The regional project aims at making public policies, services and practices more effective and responsive to the needs of youth NEETs. It supports public employment services in expanding their coverage to vulnerable youth, including local outreach strategies, engaging public and private sector organisations.
The project promotes regional dialogue and peer-exchanges, develops a technical assistance facility functioning on a demand-driven basis to provide targeted tools, guidance and trainings to policy-makers and public employment services; and will help pilot adapted approaches to reach out to youth NEETs.
