The Mediterranean Initiative was launched following the first Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Ministerial Declaration on Research and Innovation in June 2022. It embodies the European Union’s commitment to fostering strong collaborative relationships with Southern Mediterranean countries. Designed under the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2023–2024, the initiative comprises around 37 topics and a budget of approximately €320 million, providing a solid platform for advancing research and innovation in areas of mutual interest.
