In most countries, the constitutional basis for citizens’ participation in change occurs through participation in elections and through the ballot box. In the specific case of Morocco, a constitutional particularity exists, called Moucharaka Mouwatina or civic participation. The 2011 Constitution is the first constitutional text in the history of the Kingdom of Morocco to consecrate participatory democracy in more than one article framing the participation of civil society and citizens in shaping and monitoring public policies and being active stakeholders in achieving change. What does civic participation mean and how does it enhance civil society and the role of citizens?
How can women contribute to activating this constitutional right in order to change their lives and the lives of other women for the better?
This is what #SheTalks host for this episode, journalist and writer Sanaa El Aji discussed with 2 exceptional ladies Fatima Zahra Allouche, president of the Tawaza association in Martil (northern Morocco), and Samira Ben Darwish founder of Amazigh Girls Matter from Tiznit, southern Morocco.
