Women in Media: Smashing the ceiling (Ouissam El Hankari)

In this episode of #SheTalks, radio presenter Ouissam El Hankari hosts Professor Mustafa Shakiri, a media figure, journalist and expert in international relations, joined via phone call by Aisha Al-Tazi, professor at the Higher Institute of Information and Communication and a specialist in women and media issues.
Together they discuss the role of women in media by looking at the different roles of women in the sector. The episode the behavioural societal and cultural stigmatization in an industry where it is still challenging for women to access key managerial positions or break the prevailing stereotypes. Their ambitions are often negatively affected by the status quo, leading to a tendency among them to settle for less rewarding jobs despite the often high proportion of women working in the sector.

However, various programs supported by the European Union, such as the European Endowment for Democracy (EED) and the EU-funded programme Youth4Regions, are working to promote democracy and support civil society organizations and media platforms in the Arab region and beyond.
