The EU Delegation in Tunisia has published its Activity Report 2017, presenting the actions carried out throughout the year by the European Union in Tunisia, both at the political level and in terms of cooperation. The actions carried out by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), as well as by the EU Member States throughout 2016, are also highlighted as the European effort in favour of Tunisia is a collective one.

Highlights of the past year, be it the speech of the President of Tunisia Béji Caïd Essebsi at the European Parliament last December, or the high-level participation of the EU in the Tunisia 2020 Conference following the publication of the EU Communication “Strengthening EU support for Tunisia”, are underlined in the report and illustrate the dynamic currently under way.

If 2017 will see the volume of aid reach the record of EUR 300 million, the acceleration is already clearly noticeable. Over the last five years, EU allocations to Tunisia reached approximately EUR 1.27 billion. “Beyond the amounts, the diversity of the themes covered – employment, health, education, governance, culture, transport, justice and security – to name only a few – reveals the transition in society and the EU’s will to accompany the economic development and modernisation of Tunisian democracy. This document demonstrates how well the EU delivers on its promises to Tunisia,” said Patrice Bergamini, EU Ambassador to Tunisia.
