The European Union and Palestinian Ministry of Education crowned, on Tuesday 17 November, Al Jinan International School from Jenin after winning the first place at the “Know Europe” contest. European Union Representative Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff and Minister of Education Dr Marwan Awartani attended the final round of the “Know Europe” contest organised in Ramallah. For the third year in a row, the contest was organised through a customised online platform with the participation of over 1500 schools and 3000 students across the West Bank and Gaza. Public, private and UNRWA schools took part in the “Know Europe” contest.
The “Know Europe” contest was introduced in cooperation with the Ministry of Education to communicate to the Palestinian public the founding principles of the European Union, as well as cultural and historical ties with the region. The contest is an interactive way to share European culture and history with Palestinian students.
“I am very pleased to be here today and witness such enthusiasm for the Know Europe contest. This is a great opportunity to highlight the links that connect Europe and Palestine. It is also essential that we can still interact with Palestinian students in these difficult times. For three years, we have been working hand in hand to promote a deeper understanding of Europe, its institutions, culture and history. All the schools showed great commitment to the contest and did an outstanding job in preparing the children,” said European Union Representative Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff.
