The three CES-MED municipalities in Jordan – Aqaba, Irbid and Karak have finalized their Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs). To support the implementation of the plans, and more specifically of the Action Fiches, a Donor Meeting took place on 21st of November 2017 in Amman, whereby the SECAPs and their priority projects on Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Energy prepared for Jordan were presented.
The purpose of the meeting was to identify funding opportunities and discuss best approaches to facilitate the funding of these projects. Representatives of major international organizations were invited to use this opportunity and present their financing initiatives that support energy and climate projects for municipalities.
More than 90 participants attended the meeting, these being national authorities from the Ministries of International Planning and Cooperation, Municipal Affairs, and Energy and Mineral Resource and the National Energy Research Center), International Donors (EU, GIZ, USAID, Spanish, Swedish, and Canadian Cooperation, Global Green Growth Institute, UNDP-GEF, International Financial Institutions (KfW, WB, AFD), NGOs and private sector investors.
The Jordanian local authorities of Aqaba, Irbid, Karak and Sahab have presented their SECAPs and Action Fiches, prepared with the support of CES-MED experts.
The CES-MED project is an EU-funded regional initiative set up to provide training and technical assistance support to local and national authorities in the southern Mediterranean region, with a view to helping them respond more actively to sustainable policy challenges. CES-MED ensures that the actions proposed match with the objectives of the Covenant of Mayors: to reach and even go beyond the European objective to reduce CO2 emissions by 20% thanks to the improvement of energy efficiency and the increased use of sustainable energy.
