In Morocco, the Clima-Med project activities have consistently received support at both the national level from the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development (Focal Point), and at the local level from the Moroccan Association of Municipal Council Presidents (AMPCC) and the beneficiary municipalities, all of which have shown remarkable commitment and efficiency. After seven years of implementation, the Project held its final event in Morocco on September 18 in Chefchaouen, the enchanting “Blue pearl”. The event was chaired by Mr. Mohammed Sefiani, Mayor of Chefchaouen, who was joined by his team, AMPCC executives, representatives from Clima-Med beneficiary cities, other signatory cities in the Covenant of Mayors for the Mediterranean (CoM Med), in addition to a representative of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Regional Council and coordinator of the SLEC project.

The Clima-Med team led a session aimed at capitalising on the work accomplished, highlighting the achievements of the cities, presenting the tools developed by the Project, and reviving a key initiative conceived and designed by Clima-Med: the establishment of a Support Mechanism for SEACAPs (SSM) to ensure continued climate action at the local level, while fostering stronger connections between local governments, national authorities, and international partners. The discussions provided valuable lessons learned and recommendations, supported by the AMPCC, which reaffirmed its commitment to leading and guiding Moroccan municipalities in climate planning. Participants also suggested ways to institutionalise the SEACAP Support Mechanism  and identified key institutions to engage in this effort.

Clima-Med is set to conclude in early November 2025, leaving behind significant recognition, challenges to tackle, and valuable tools available to local and national authorities.
