From 21 to 26 September, a high-level delegation of the European Union will travel to New York to participate in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This year’s UNGA takes place at a time of significant geopolitical challenges and mounting global crises. Against this backdrop, the UN’s 80th anniversary is a timely opportunity to renew collective commitment to global cooperation and to shaping a United Nations fit for the future. The EU and its Member States will be joining the international community to send a clear message of unwavering support to multilateralism, with the UN at its core. During the week, the EU’s engagement will centre on deepening partnerships across regions, mobilising collective action for peace and security, advancing sustainable development, and upholding the universality of human rights.
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas, together with the President of the European Council António Costa, will host or participate in events and meetings with leaders from around the world. They will be joined by Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera, and Commissioners Dubravka Šuica, Wopke Hoekstra, Jozef Síkela, Hadja Lahbib, Magnus Brunner, Jessika Roswall, Dan Jørgensen, and Glenn Micallef. This EU leadership team will represent the Union at the UN-mandated high-level meetings. The EU will host or co-host several flagship events in the margins of the General Assembly. EU representatives will have a full agendaof high-level debates and side events, as well as numerous bilateral meetings.
