On 5-6 December 2019 in Sweimeh, Jordan, the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe organised, with the support of the EU-funded South Programme III, a follow-up seminar to the Lisbon Forum 2018 which called upon international agencies, national governments and local authorities to urgently establish policy dialogue processes with young people on issues related to peace and security.

This two-day follow-up seminar aimed at identifying the “take-ins” that interregional cooperation and exchanges of knowledge and good practices between different stakeholders could bring in defining a more youth-inclusive global agenda for peace. This process will also highlight the strong mobilising effect of young people in achieving Council of Europe and other international platforms’ objectives of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

The event was organised with the participation of youth-related civil society organisations, the United Nations, the Organisation for security and co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the African Union, the Council of Europe and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The North-South Centre, as instrument of the Council of Europe for regional and multilateral cooperation with the Southern Mediterranean and Middle East countries, act as a facilitator for structured cooperation and confidence building between governments, parliamentarians, local and regional authorities and civil society organisations with a bottom-up participatory approach.
