The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will, on 26 May, 2022, launch two pilot projects on circular textile production in Egypt, during an event where UNIDO and international experts from the SwitchMed/MED TEST III project will present details on two circular textile pilot projects.
Under the European Union funded SwitchMed/MED TEST III project, undertaken in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Industrial Modernization Center, Egypt Textiles and Home Textiles Export Council, and Apparel Export Council of Egypt, UNIDO is currently exploring the potential for developing a value chain that can better valorize fibers from pre-consumer and post-industrial textile waste in Egypt.
Together with national project stakeholders, UNIDO has identified two pilot projects that will demonstrate how to modernize the recycling capacity in Egypt and stimulate the creation of quality textile waste collection in Egypt.
SwitchMed aims at speeding up the shift to sustainable consumption and production patterns in the Southern Mediterranean, notably through the promotion of circular economy approaches. The programme aims at achieving productive, circular and sharing economies in the Mediterranean by changing the way goods and services are consumed and produced so that human development is decoupled from environmental degradation.
