EU Ambassador to Egypt Angelina Eichhorst and Ambassadors of EU Member States paid a historic visit to the magnificent Al-Azhar Mosque on 9 July. The visit began with an engaging exchange with Prof. Mohammad Al-Duweiny, Deputy Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, on joint efforts to prevent extremism, promote interfaith dialogue, strengthen messages of peace and humanity, fostering and institutionalising cooperation between the EU & Member States & al-Azhar. The discussion concluded with an insightful tour of the mosque’s rich history and enduring cultural legacy. This was a very special visit.
