As part of ongoing efforts to highlight the impact of EU-funded green finance initiatives in Jordan, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) was honoured to welcome H.E. Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, EU Ambassador to Jordan, on a field visit to meet a local woman entrepreneur whose journey reflects the power of sustainable investment and inclusive growth.

The visit took place in Jabal Al Hussein, where the Ambassador met Amal Ali Al-Thaqali, owner of Family Kitchen and a client of Microfund for Women (MFW). Amal’s home-based food business has grown significantly thanks to her decision to invest in energy-efficient appliances, a move made possible through financing provided under the Green Economy Financing Facility (GEFF), supported by the European Union and implemented by EBRD.

MFW has played a key role in supporting women entrepreneurs like Amal, channeling more than $1.6 million in GEFF-backed financing to over 700 clients, of whom 75% are women. This reflects the strong alignment between EBRD’s green financing goals, EU priorities, and the local commitment to empowering women-led businesses. The visit provided an opportunity for direct dialogue with beneficiaries, shedding light on the transformative potential of green finance, not just in reducing environmental footprints, but also in unlocking economic opportunity, particularly for women in underserved communities.
