The Stability Cluster, regrouping the work of the Subcommittee on Justice and Security and the Working Group on Migration, Social and Consular Affairs of the Association Agreement between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the European Union held its session in Cairo on March 15th 2018.
The meeting was jointly chaired by H.E. Ambassador Raouf SAAD, chairman of the National Bureau for the Implementation of the Association Agreement, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Sibylle BIKAR, Acting Head of Division, Middle East and North Africa, European External Action Service.
The meeting took place when Egypt and the EU are on the verge of launching a new level of cooperation and dialogue in a wide range of areas, based on their Partnership Priorities 2017-2020.
The two sides conducted a comprehensive and frank dialogue covering many issues of mutual interest, including judicial cooperation; fight against drugs and organized crimes; combating terrorism; migration and asylum; social policy and social development and consular cooperation. They took stock of the latest developments in all these issues and explored ways to further promote their dialogue and cooperation for the benefit of both sides.
Both sides recognized the importance of benefitting from the past experience, and expressed their determination to strengthen their dialogue and cooperation through a comprehensive and balanced approach in addressing all areas of mutual interest as well as common challenges, in the interest of both Egypt and the EU as well as the wider region.
